Sharjah- June 20, 2010- The Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) and the American University of Sharjah (AUS) Microelectronics Summer Bootcamp for aspiring Emirati talent gets underway yesterday at the AUS campus in Sharjah. The 10-day bootcamp will offer 20 distinguished 11th and 12th grade students from Abu Dhabi exposure to knowledge, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, practical applications and a bit of fun, all aimed at giving them an intense introduction to the world of microelectronics and the modern applications of technology.
“ATIC is committed to offering young Emiratis world-class educational opportunities in the highly competitive and innovative field of technology. Our collaboration with AUS in this bootcamp aims to engage some of our brightest talents in the technology of microsystems, asking questions, hands on experience and really thinking about what goes in to making many of the gadgets they use in their daily lives,” said Ibrahim Ajami, CEO of ATIC.
Dr. Peter Heath, Chancellor of American University of Sharjah, said that AUS was very pleased to partner with ATIC. “I am confident that this partnership will yield positive results for both our organizations. We hope that this partnership will prove beneficial not only for ATIC and AUS but also for UAE society at large,” he said.
Lectures will be led by AUS faculty working alongside representatives from AMD, one of the world’s largest global suppliers of microchip technology and the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT), the UAE’s science and engineering specialist education provider. The distinguished Emirati participants have been drawn from schools across Abu Dhabi. Living on campus for the duration of the 10 day course, the students will participate in lectures, audio-visual presentations, technical workshops, debates and open discussions with experienced industry leaders.
